How to reply with a retweet…. or something?! Twitter help!?

By malmy at 29 August, 2010, 5:22 am

I’m fairly new to twitter. I’ve noticed how some people retweet other peoples posts whilst replying at the same time,

e.g: ‘Ooh that sounds cool! RT @example123 I’m going to the zoo’

What is the correct way of doing it? Is it the same as the example I have just given above – Start with your reply, then put ‘RT’ then the persons name and tweet you’re replying to?

So confusing!

You copy and paste the original tweet and send it out. To give credit to the original person, users usually put “RT” plus the originator’s username at the beginning of the tweet.

You can reply to any tweet as you have mentioned in your example. You can as well retweet without RT. You can put @twittername for retwitting.

Just copy and paste their tweets and put RT @(his/her username) before the tweet. Then you can write anything before and after their tweet. This helps you retweet, give the original tweeter the credit and lets you edit the tweet to fit in what you want to say.

If you use the normal Retweet button, it will come up in your profile but wont be editable.

If copying and pasting the tweet is a problem, use application like TweetDeck to automatically edit and retweet.
